Parents have their own reasons why they choose homeschooling rather than enrolling them on public/private schools. They may be thinking that a homeschooled kid is a lot better than their peers in terms of academics and values because of they are the ones who builds the kid’s basic values formation, dreams and even their outlook in life. It is also the best way to separate kids from children that can influence them in a bad way.
As we can see, home schooling is a great method of teaching your children disciplines that they can use as they grow up. Not like other kids, home schooled kids’ transition from childhood to adulthood is fast. They act as if they are carbon copies of their parents. They talk like and even think like them. They think matured enough that they can even be mistaken to be adults trapped in a child’s body.
Maturity is a good sign of growing up but maturing too soon has also its bad effects on children. Though not backed by huge numbers, some of the homeschooled children are finding difficulties in socializing with children their age and with children from public schools. Mental age is not the issue here but socialization with peers is.
One of the stories I’ve read is when a homeschooled kid who took an exam in a public school and feel so embarrassed with herself. She was brought by her mom in the school and left her with bunch of other kids which she considers total strangers. She felt awkward and very nervous that resulted to a “not fairly well” result. So awkward that when her mom returned to fetch her, she panicked that she constantly avoids eye contacts with other students.
If you are a parent that’s homeschooling your children, one great advise that I can give you is to let your children grow like normal kid does. Engage them to social activities where they can interact and play with other kids of their age regardless if they are homeschooled or not. If they are musically inclined, you can enroll them to a guitar class, voice lessons, etc. If they want sports, enroll them to a basketball clinic, football, tennis, or any sport they like.
Let your children grow. Let them do as much as they want provided that they are doing right and is still under your provision. Hope that this blog helped you, thank you for reading!
